On June 8, the PASSIVE PROTECTION segment will cover a great variety of subjects such as, in Reaction to fire: Correlation between the results of the Room Corner Test with the figures obtained in the SBI; Environmentally friendly fireproofing materials; Fire behaviour of organic insulating materials in ventilated facades of high-rise buildings, etc. In Resistance: Control of the safety of persons and assets and the surroundings in firebreak doors; Multisector smoke extraction ducts, tests, requirements and solutions; New technologies in the production of safety glass; Intumescent protection in thin-web beams; etc.

The ACTIVE PROTECTION area will, on one hand, treat Equipment and Facilities: Fire resistance of automatic sprinkler systems with CPVC; UNE 23500-90 revision: fire-fighting water supply systems; Sprinklers for storage spaces; Low pressure water mist systems for the protection of highway tunnels, etc. In the Detection segment: New standard EN 54-16: Fire detection and fire alarm system/ Voice alarm control; reliable fire detection - fire detection enhanced with CO detection; Secure alarm transmission systems as per the EN 54-21 standard; etc.

The keynote report will deal with “Protection against fire in the Brazilian market”.

On the second day, June 9, the ACTIVE segment will include reports centred on Design and Application, such as: Fire pumps for high-rise buildings; automatic sprinklers in Building Codes; Control of old sprinkler facilities to guarantee their effectiveness; Extinction systems based on the application of medium and high expansion foam in transformer risks and cable galleries; etc.

On the other hand, the PASSIVE segment, titled passive product evaluation, will focus on: Guaranteeing the installation of passive protection facilities and the maintenance thereof; The free movement of products in Europe. Current situation and intervention of the member states; Design features; etc.

In the section on Analysis and Modelling the following topics will be treated: Adaptation of a fire simulator to the characteristics of the Spanish building system; Simulation of large steel doors subjected to fire conditions; and Variation of the outset parameters of the computational fluid dynamic modelling of fires versus true-scale trials; European standardisation.

Finally, in the central room the MASTER PAPERS will be read: Physical scale modelling for smoke control in large atria; European standardisation. Why the regulation of building materials has become the construction products directive; and building design strategies: Accessibility and safety from fire.

The SCI2009 is sponsored by SICUR (Madrid Trades Fair Enterprise) and AENOR. It also has the following global patrons: PACISA, PEFIPRESA and PROMAT and, as collaborators, COLT, NOTIFIER, LPG, JALITE-OBEISA, VIKING, NORDES PROSEGUR, AERIE, ROCKWOOL, ESSER and CDAF.
