INTERVIEW TO VICENTE MANS, COORDINATOR OF PASSIVE FIRE PREVENTION AREA |
|
| |
Fire safety is one of the six essential requisites covered in the European Guidelines on Construction Products, therefore it is a subject of sufficient relevance for Spain to host the International Fire Safety Congress, SCI2009, which deals with both passive and active fire safety in a comprehensive manner in one single forum.
The purpose of this Congress is to call a forum for the meeting of leading experts and technologies in the sector. The result is obviously an enrichment of knowledge of the state of the art in this area.
Recently, there was a meeting of the Scientific Committee which assessed the speeches in terms of technical level, innovation and applicability to the current reality in the sector. The presentations have been chosen on the basis of them being eminently technical, practical and always reflecting a further stage of knowledge in the state of the art of the subject in question and, of course, avoiding any commercial references.
We are very proud of the participation which has surpassed 35 per cent in relation to previous years. The subjects that have stood out on Passive are: in the chapter on reaction to fire, environmentally-friendly fireproof systems and polymeric insulators; in the area of fire resistance, improvements will be presented in intumescent coatings and the new plaque installation systems, etc.
Our priority is to raise the standard of technological contributions, consolidating it as a leading event in Europe.
For this reason, there will also be a space provided for the speeches that have not been chosen but which are of particular interest. They shall be displayed in poster format in one of the areas of the Congress.
The Congress is divided into three blocks: the first block deals with subjects relating to the behaviour of materials with fire, the second subject is on fire resistance, for example, in metal structures, and the third will deal with common matters such as current issues in trials, normalisation, legislation, etc., that affect issues of passive reaction and resistance to fire.

CONSTRUCTING THE FUTURE OF FIRE SAFETY |
|
| |
In the final preparations of our International Fire Safety Congress, SCI2009, which takes place from 8 - 10 June at the Centro de Convenciones Norte of the Feria Madrid, we face this new challenge preoccupied by the effect of the crisis on our sector, in which industry and construction are seriously suffering the consequences.
The financial crisis, together with increased production costs and the drop in consumption, are affecting company sales, thus reducing margins and creating serious, and possibly lasting, damages to the sector.
It should be borne in mind that the difficulties of the market often endanger the principles of quality, sustainability in building, surveillance and control of installations and materials, respect for the environment and compliance with regulations. For this reason, at this time, an international congress of these characteristics is of vital importance.
The SCI2009 is an essential meeting for all professionals interested in fire safety, as during those two days the greatest experts in each area will gather to pinpoint and reveal trends and technological and legislative advances. At the SCI2009 all public and private entities relating to fire prevention, protection and safety will come together: universities, schools, ministries, autonomous communities, councils, fire stations, associations, engineering companies, manufacturers, installers and maintenance companies, insurance companies, professionals and consultants, etc., nationally and internationally.
The SCI2009, consolidated through previous editions as an essential meeting for the sector, is a unique opportunity to confront the immediate future together as it brings together the most important speakers on Fire Safety in one single space, providing us with the possibility of sharing knowledge, the latest technological advances and debating regulations, legislation, development and innovation.
Throughout the two days a very varied program will unfold that will tackle new scientific-technical challenges; current legislation and regulations that affect the sector, the trends and forecasts of the future in which fire prevention will be immersed, both on a national and international level, providing ideas and solutions for continuous, balanced growth which respects quality and the environment.
I would hereby like to formally invite you to participate with us in the construction of the future of fire safety.
